Biography
Javier Gómez was born in 1957 in Pedro Bernardo, Ávila, Spain. He is a self-taught artist who had his first contact with glass in his family’s industrial glass workshop in 1971, where he learned the techniques of industrial glass, which became the basis for his later artistic development[10].
In 1986, Gómez saw images of artworks made of laminated glass which inspired him to become a sculptor, choosing glass as his primary medium. In 1987, his work was selected for the Valladolid Award of Sculpture held by the National Museum of Sculpture in Valladolid, Spain. From that point on, he dedicated himself exclusively to his artwork and promoting glass as an artistic material.
Gómez, along with the City Hall of Alcorcón, founded the MAVA – Contemporary Glass Art Museum of Alcorcón in the greater Madrid area, Spain, where he serves as the lifetime artistic advisor[10]. The MEVJG – Javier Gómez Glass Sculpture Museum in Pedro Bernardo, Ávila, Spain is also dedicated to his works.
