Biography

John Kiley is a renowned American glass artist known for his innovative and groundbreaking work in contemporary glass sculpture. Born in 1973 in Seattle, Washington, Kiley has established himself as a leading figure in the world of glass art through his unique exploration of form, light, and spatial relationships.

Early Career and Training

Kiley’s journey in glass art began at a young age. As a teenager, he experimented with painting on glass, which laid the foundation for his future career. At the age of 19, he started his professional career at The Glass Eye Studio in Seattle. His talent quickly became apparent, and by 21, he was promoted to Gaffer on Dale Chihuly’s chandelier team.

Professional Development

Kiley’s expertise grew through collaborations with master artists. He spent 16 years working with the renowned Lino Tagliapietra, developing a deep understanding of traditional glassblowing and fabrication techniques. He has also worked with other notable artists such as Dante Marioni and Benjamin Moore.

Artistic Style and Techniques

Kiley’s work is characterized by:

Today, John Kiley divides his time between Seattle and San Francisco, continuing to push the boundaries of glass art. He is represented by several prestigious galleries, including Sandra Ainsley Gallery in Toronto and Traver Gallery.

John Kiley’s contributions to the field of glass art have solidified his position as a master craftsman and innovative artist, continually exploring new possibilities within the medium of glass sculpture.
