Biography

Dan Alexander is a renowned glass artist whose career spans nearly two decades. His journey in the world of glass art began in his home state of Ohio, where he first witnessed a glass blowing demonstration that ignited his passion for the medium.

Alexander pursued his interest in glass art at Kent State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in glass. During his time as a student, he gained valuable experience working at Hale Fame and Village, a traditional glass factory, where he quickly rose to the position of head gaffer, creating high-production pieces.

After graduating, Alexander’s career took off rapidly. He was hired as a Team Leader at the Corning Museum of Glass, where he spent six years educating the public about the history, chemistry, and properties of glass, as well as demonstrating the technical skills required to create fine glass objects. This position allowed him to travel the world, sharing his knowledge and expertise with diverse audiences.

Throughout his career, Alexander has sought to expand his skills by studying with some of the most renowned glass artists in the field. He has worked with masters such as Elio Quariso, Martin Janecky, Dante Marioni, James Mongrain, and Davide Fuin. A particularly significant experience was his time spent in Murano, Italy, where he worked alongside Maestro Davide Salvadore, creating large-scale blown glass art.

Alexander’s professional journey has included various leadership roles in the glass art community. He served as the Studio Manager/Director of a glass factory and later took on the role of Studio Director at Third Degree Glass Factory. In these positions, he oversaw studio operations, glass production, and even worked on site-specific installations.

Since 2016, Alexander has focused on establishing himself as an independent artist, creating a diverse body of work that ranges from large, patterned vases to small, intricate flowers. His artistic philosophy centers on challenging himself and pushing the boundaries of his craft. Alexander’s work is inspired by nature, textiles, travel, historical objects, and architecture, with a particular focus on patterns.

Alexander’s talent and innovative approach to glass art have earned him numerous awards and exhibition opportunities:

  1. Emerging Artist Residency/Award, St. Petersburg, Florida (2019)
  2. Art Alliance of Contemporary Glass (AACG) Professional Artist Residency, Reading, Pennsylvania (2021)
  3. Glass Art Society nomination for Professional Emerging Artist (2022)
  4. “Effect, Dream, Transform” Award presented by the mayor of Uskudar, Turkey (2022)
